One Step Sparring (Ilsushik)

One Step Sparring drills (Ilsushik) are relatively short combinations of moves performed with a partner to teach timing, distance and the application of different techniques. One partner is the attacker and the other is the defender. The attacker throws a punch and the defender blocks or evades the attack and then counters with moves to subdue the attacker. Using a "real" partner gives feedback that can not be achieved in poomse that are against imaginary opponents. Because both partners always know what the next move is, it is possible to practice, with a good deal of speed and power, techniques which are too dangerous to practice in free-sparring. At each colored belt level, you are taught three new one step drills. One Step #1 for Green Stripe Belt
